Quoting Calcruzer

Be aware that those of you who decide to take Flir67's advice above concerning the downloading of redsn0w to an Apple iPhone do so with the risk of violating your Apple warranty. Redsn0w is a type of "jailbreaking" software and is unsupported (actually discouraged) by Apple Corporation.

I do understand the allure of jailbreaking, however, and the arguments on both sides of doing it or not doing it.

For more on jailbreaking software, see one of the following two websites:

didn't mean to scare anybody by it, and yes it will void your warranty. but if your traveling and need a sim card to work from a unsupported apple carrier. I say its better safe to have a working iPhone then not... especially into todays times...

if in doubt just get a cheap unlocked quad band phone and take it with you , and use your iPhone as a camera...

good luck..

If you have been with your carrier for a few years they may unlock your phone so you can use a foreign sim. It wasn't an iPhone but I had been with T-Mobile for a few years and they gave me the unlock code so I could use an Italian sim. Just call your carrier and see what they say. My current iPhone is with Sprint and it came unlocked to international sims. I was able to cut down that old Italian sim to check that my iPhone will accept it.

I plan to get a Spanish sim with data when I'm there next month. All of my hotels have wifi but I think I'll want to use some data while I'm out and about as well.
