I want to know the cheapest way to withdrawing money from a foreign atm? will that be using cirrus or maestro?

I don't know if this is standard, but my bank charges me 1.5% of whatever i withdraw at the exchange rate at the time of withdrawal. Doesn't matter what ATM i use. I would check with your bank what their charges are.

On my Dutch account, overseas withdrawals were free (had both maestro and cirrus) because I payed a small yearly fee for this. This could be very different in other countries though depending on competition in the banking industry there!

Before I paid the yearly fee, it was a small fixed fee of 3 or 4 euro per transaction so I was always best off taking out the maximum amount (which has a few risks in terms of theft etc. mind you...)

I don't think maestro or cirrus makes a difference. It's what your bank at home decides to charge you and maybe what the ATM machines bank decides to put on top (common in some countries too)...

My bank would charge a flat fee of $5 (my local currency) for every withdrawal, regardless of amount. Not quite worth it for me.
