I'm stopping over in KL for 2 days, and thinking of checking out TN and the Batu caves. Assuming 1 evening for Batu caves, will 1.5days sufficient time for Taman Negra? I am not keen on doing any trek of greater than 5-6 hrs, but I am not sure how much time i need to allocate for KL to TN and back. Any suggestions?

Also, is it advisible to plan the itinerary in KL well ahead in time, or is it easy to find travel operators that could take me to TN once i land in KL?

Btw, I'm travelling alone ... anyone wishing to join me to TN on 15 or 16 of march drop me a message.

Hi eel,

I believe it's not enough. If you do that, you'd probably end up going to Taman Negara, take a look, and then off you go.

If you want to take a look at a forest, from Batu Caves, head up about 4km further north to the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM) in Kepong. There you could take a walk at the forest canopy. :) You may have to make an appointment for the canopy walk so that the officials there can prepare for your visit, as the forest is sometimes closed.

I was in Malaysia in January and visited TN. As I remember, we had to get a coach to a town called Jerantut from KL which took a few hours, then spend the night there and catch a boat at 8am the next morning to TN, which takes 3 hours - can't remember if there's a bus in the afternoon. We got a boat back from TN around 3pm, hung around in Jerantut for a few hours then got an overnight train back to KL, so you need at least 2 nights before you even start to look into staying at TN! We also looked at the Batu caves, which were cool, but not worth missing TN for.

Word of advice - if it's been raining invest in some leach spray in TN, we didn't and got mauled by them!

Yup, totally agree with hien & Phillymop. Takes one or two hours to get there by car from KL, then you have to take a boat for another hour or two. And that excludes hitches/waiting about. Oh and Phillymop-best way is to burn those nasty leeches off with a lit cigarette, I bring them even tho I dont smoke.
