Hi David
I have only ever been a visitor to London but I guess you would like that as well.
If you tell me a bit about your and your wife's interests and the ages of your children I will give more detailed advice but here I am concentrating on things that are specifically London. That is not to decry our main museums but I guess your own are as good.
For general views I think the London Eye is terrific - although not cheap for a family - and a river boat between Westminster Pier and Greenwich should be enjoyable for you all. You will get an interesting commentary.

The Tourist Bus is a good way to get a quick view of major sights and of course is hop-on hop-off.

That should do enough to get you started but I suggest you would not want to miss:
Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament
Trafalgar Square
Buckingham Palace
St Paul's Cathedral
Tower of London
Whitehall and Downing Street.

David, in a post of yours a month ago on a different travel forum, your kids were 5 and 8. I don't really see your intent here, but it smells fishy to me...
