Hey everyone,

I'm going to be flying out to Sydney on the 5th december from Manchester (arriving 6th december) on my own. Would be great to hear from anyone going around the same time. I'm going to be staying at Base for first few nights then who knows! Plan to stay in Sydney for NYE and then travel East Coast. All very exciting but scary! Anyone have similar plans? X

Hi!

I arrive on the 5th but in Melbourne, I plan to be in Sydney for NYE though and like you, heading up the East coast. I can't wait to leave now.... 7mths and counting before I leave!

Have you booked Base yet? Gav x

Hey Gav,
I know me too! Exciting times!
I've booked Base for my first 4nights through STA but didn't want to make too many plans.if I like it I'll be staying for the 3 weeks then begin travelling. Just a bit worried about it getting booked up quickly around that time. I've heard Sydney is very expensive! You been before?

Hey Sarah,

I'm from Australia and have spent a fair bit of time in Sydney. NYE in sydney is special, but its really packed. This makes getting around difficult, especially trying to get to a good vantage point of the harbour. Clubs and bars often charge a cover entry, even the bars that would ordinarily wouldnt charge do this. It might be worthwhile purchasing a ticket to an event prior, it might seem expensive but it will make your life a lot easier. Australia is generally expensive, especially if the unfavourable exchange rate continues for you. So basically if you're keen to party on NYE consider getting a ticket to a nice event; im not exactly sure whats on offer but no doubt some cool parties. There are lots of public viewing areas around the harbour but they get super packed, people literally stake out their spot days ahead to get a good view of the fireworks.

Good luck and enjoy!

Hey Jack,

Thanks for your advice!! Much appreciated. I have a few friends in Sydney who have said the same so if I am going to still be there i will start planning ahead! :-)

Gav- never been before. I'm going on a 12 month Working Visa so hoping to stay the full year but depends on funds I suppose. What about u?Are you travelling alone? How you planning to travel the east coast? I've heard greyhound bus is the best option

Hi Sarah,

I am looking at going to Australia in November alone. I haven't booked anything as yet, just in process of applying for a working visa. Do you have any idea of the route you want to take? I am thinking of going south east coast up.

Are you going to work and travel?

I am hoping to a meet travel buddy, so would be good to hear from you.

Hey Kim,

I'm starting in Sydney and then travelling the East Coast to Cairns and yes I'm going to travel and work along the way. When are you planning on booking flights for? I fly out from Manchester on the 5th Dec and have booked a few nights accommodation in Base Hostel.i didn't want to make too many plans as I guess I'll be meeting people along the way and plans may change.

Would be great if you we're around at the same time.its a little scary going alone!

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for your reply. Sounds like we are going similar routes and I feel the same about not planning too much - I want to be flexible and I've never done anything like this before so think I will find out loads when I'm out there.

Have you applied for your visa? Do you know if when you apply you need a certain amount saved as I don't have yet but I will have by the time I go? Once I've got my visa I will start to look for flights.

I was thinking of booking my flights for late November time as this is when I will have saved enough. Will probs book from London as it might be cheaper.
Are you from Manchester - I am from Birmingham so I am between London and Manchester for booking flights. It will all depend on the price. I will have a look at Base.

Add me on facebook and we can keep in touch.
