Hey All,
We are planning an overland Africa trip to begin in about 6 months. Needless to say there is a lot of work invovled with buying a vehicle, planning a route, getting visa and outfitting the vehicle etc.

We are looking for ANY and ALL advice related to Africa overland, such as border crossing information, country information, road information, car/outfitting advice etc. I am also hoping someone will be familiar with these damned carnet de passages (hoping to NOT need them), as well as ferries from the east coast to Yemen (or Saudi Arabia, if you know whether driving there is safe).

I am also hoping for any information on buying a car in the UK or anywhere in Europe, such as websites to start looking at (and ones to avoid - we have already come across lots of scams).

Grateful for any and all info!

There is a great site - http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ where they talk about overland travel for motorcycles. It has lots of information about borders, carnets, etc. Very good. There are lots of blogs,

http://familyinafrica.wordpress.com/ or

have tons of ideas, hints and GPS coordinates for camping, lodges, and everything.

I am planning on an overland trip starting in September for about 9 months. I will be going through Morocco then West Africa. I will be in London mid Sep if you want to meet.

Anyway, there are lots of resources out there. Takes a bit of digging.
