Hey Jeff, you might be able to help me out.

Went to see the lovely people at Trailfinders this wknd, and the guys I spoke to more or less drew a big X through the Nepal/Tibet phase of my trip. Here's why:

I told him I want to do one of the following
A) move from Delhi to Katmandu and on to Tibet
b) move from Delhi to Beijing and work my way down through China back to Tibet

He reckoned that using the OneWorld Explorer ticket it would be easier to just fly from Delhi to Beijing (via Bangkok). He said that trying to move through Nepal and Tibet would be just plain awkward because he couldnt see how I could get to Beijing after Tibet.
If I went to Tibet by option B he said I would have to make my way from Chengdu to Tibet which would mean an extra airfare. He seemed to think that this would be taking a major step backward if I'm trying to get to Vietnam and CAmbodia after this.

I'm disappointed - there are a lot of places it seems that I now cant get to on my trip unless I add on extra airfares....Nepal, Tibet, Fiji and Easter Island. I'm going to still try and get to Tibet and Fiji.

Any advice? (hope all that is coherent)

Hi Eve,

I think I can help you (I certainly will try). Its never easy to plan these things (it can be fun but can certainly cause your head to start spinning after a while).

I'm not sure if you're going RTW or doing a loop form Ireland to China, etc.. then back West toward Europe again. If you post or PM me your tentitive itinerary form Ireland I can probably help you a little easier.

With option B once you start heading back West from Beijing to Tibet/Nepal it would be out of the way to head back east toward Vietnam/Cambodia.

In 2001 I sort of did part of what you want to do in the reverse direction. I went from Bangkok to Haoni then North into China ending up in Chengdu. Flew to Lhasa then down to Kathmandu then flew to Delphi.

I don't have an atlas or map in front of me so I'm sort of doing this by memory. But I would think it would be easy to fly (Delhi-Khatmandu-Lhasa-Chengdu) then the problem is Beijing (or down toward to Vietnam/Cambodia. Like I said if i knew a little more of where you're going before and after this portion it would make more sence to me and be easier to try and make it all work out.

I'll wait to get a little more Info. from you then try and help you work it out (there are a alot of options).

Also Easter Island seems like a really cool place (its also the remote Island on earth...nothing within a thousand miles in any direction). Fiji wasn't that special to me just a beach I wouldn't stress out about missing it unless you have your heart set on it or can do it easy).

Hope you're not more confused now than you were 5 minutes ago.

LoL! Thanks Jeff. I typed all that last night before bed. Apologies to everyone for posting under "elasticated budget" (pauses to bang head off desk once) and apologies JEff for the total lack of context (pauses to bang head off desk again).

I will just put it in a PM
