Tips and travel buddies for South East Asia April 2014

Hi Guys,

So I'm travelling alone to Oz in November and plan to leave Cairns at the beginning of April to travel around South East Asia.

I plan to fly to Bali, then go to Kuta, Ubud and Jakarta, before moving onto Malaysia. In Malaysia, I'm planning on stopping in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and doing a trip to Taman Negera national park, before going back to Kuala Lumpur to go to Thailand.

In Thailand, I want to go to Phuket, then onto Koh Phanagan, Koh Tao and Bangkok, then to Cambodia and Koh Kong, Phom Penh and Siem Reap.

Then into Vietnam to Ho Chi Min City, Nha Trang, Halong Bay and Hanoi.

Then finally to Laos in Luang Probang, Vang Vieng and Vientiane, then going back to Bangkok to meet up with some family at the end of June.

Firstly, a few tips: will 2 and a half to 3 months be enough time? Is there anywhere you wouldn't suggest going or you'd suggest sacrificing for some more time somewhere else? How much roughly would you need? (I know budgets are hard to tell, but I'm meaning like what is the cheapest) What places should be priority?

Is anyone else planning to do the same sort of thing?

Is anyone leaving Oz at around the same time to travel through SE Asia?

I have never travelled alone and am a bit daunted by the whole thing, so would love to meet some travel buddies on here to share the backpacking experience with in Asia.

Im Jean from London, i will be looking to go travelling About March next year ... I wanted to start with America then Asia.

Im also travelling alone which as you said above it is a little dunting ...

Where abouts are you from? Seems like you have a good plan .. im not as organised but maybe you could give me some tips as to how to do so please?

hey there, i fly out to the philippines march 2014 from perth, then to bangkok end of march and plan on floating around all over for about a year, but thats as far as i go in order of actuall plans. but i think im going to stay northern thailand as i have already done the south islands. cant make up my mind where i want to do songkran though???

You've mentioned really touristy places in Thailand which could be changed by far better places (and beaches). Inform me if you're open to suggestions. And what kind of expectations do you have or any special liking to i.e. nature, ancient ruins and less i.e. big cities, urban..... that would be a good hint for me to help you more. Cheers!
