Sights and Activities
Rich and diverse vegetation of this national park creates favorable conditions for living of numerous animal species, many of which are included into the Red Book of the Republic of Belarus.
And the most famous animal of the Pushcha is of course the master of these forests, the European bison. Visitors from all over the world come to see it.
There are rare rock oaks and the only natural population of white fir in Europe. There are giant trees that are 400-600 years old. They have been growing here since the times of kings and rich nobles who used to hunt in the beautiful Pushcha lands. As for the number of plant and animal species, Belovezhskaya Pushcha has no equals in Europe. For example, the pristine wilds are home to the world's largest population of bison. Wolves and lynxes, red deer and roe deer, wild boars and badgers, black storks and white-tailed eagles find shelter here. Many flora and fauna species of Belovezhskaya Pushcha are listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Belarus. As a protected natural area, Belovezhskaya Pushcha has been known since 1409. Captivated by the wild beauty of the forest, the Polish King Yagiello issued an edict that prohibited big game hunting in the forest. Throughout its history, the wilderness area has repeatedly fallen into the possession of Russia, then into the ownership of Poland. Only in 1939, when Pushcha became part of the BSSR, was the reserve "Belovezhskaya Pushcha. Fifty-two years later it was reorganized into the State National Park. The governmental residence Viskuly was located there, where the "Belovezhskaya Agreement" on the dissolution of the USSR was signed. Belovezhskaya Pushcha is a jewel in the world's treasury. Here you can enjoy the supernatural silence of the ancient forest, walk along the cascade of lakes and along the banks of rivers. The most popular time to travel to the forest is winter. Artfully carved sculptures, a 40-meter high Christmas tree, a windmill and a magical well will give tourists an unforgettable experience and vivid emotions.
