There comes a point in every self-respecting traveller's life when they decide it is time to map out their life's travels. If you have arrived at this point then this is the article for you. It will take you through the process of mapping out your travels on Travellerspoint one step at a time. The screenshots here are taken on desktop, so it might look slightly different for you if you are on mobile.

Step 1: Create an Account

You will need a Travellerspoint account to create maps. Don't worry, it is entirely free. To create an account head to the Signup page. On this page you will need to choose a username that no-one has chosen before, enter your email address and choose a password. After doing that, click the Join Travellerspoint button and you're in. Welcome to Travellerspoint

Step 2: Go to your Map Page

Right after signing up, you will end up on your home page. After dismissing the welcome message that appears, you should see a button to Your Map. It's shown in the screengrab below. Go ahead and click on that button to visit your map page. (or just click this link)

Step 3: Add your First Trip

You create trips by clicking the big green + icon that shows on the page. Click that button to set up your first trip.

You will be taken to a screen where you can name your trip. You can also add a description if you like but that is optional. After naming your trip, click on the Add Trip button

Step 4: Add Your First Stop

What's a trip without some stops? Well nothing really. So it's time to add your first stop. Generally people choose their home town for this as that is usually where you depart from. Type the name of your home town into the stop form and you should see it pop up. Select it from the list.

As soon as you select the location you will be taken to a screen where you can add arrival / departure dates. Since this is your departure town, you can just enter your departure date. This is entirely optional however - you can also just leave it blank and not enter any dates for your trip. At this stage of adding a stop it is also possible to edit the precise location of the marker. You can drag that marker to your actual house if you prefer. You can also rename the stop location to something else. Perhaps you want to show the locations in a different language - you could change that on here. Or rename it to "Home Sweet Home". Totally up to you. If however you don't want to make any changes you can just hit the Save Stop button and move on.

Step 5: Add Your Next Stop

Time to go travelling. Enter the first destination on your trip the same way you entered your first destination. This time when you are on the screen where you can edit your stop information, you will be able to add an extra bit of information - the transport mode that you used to get there. It will default to plane, but you can change that to train, car, bus or a number of other transport modes. Depending on which one you pick, the lines drawn on the map will be shown differently. Once done, click the Save Stop button.

Step 6: Add More Stops

Now that you've added a couple of stops, you will be seeing your map take shape. There will be a line drawn between those two stops and markers shown at each location. Of course, you probably went to more than one place, so repeat step 5 as many times as you need to map out your trip. At the final step, add your home town again. You should now see a complete trip outline on the map, something like the one below. Congratulations! You have mapped your first trip.

Step 7: Add More Trips

The thing is, you may have been on more than one trip in your life. So maybe you want to map them all out. You're in luck, because you can do that easily through this mapping system. Just repeat steps 3 - 6 as many times as you need to add more trips. Some Travellerspoint members have hundreds of trips mapped out on a single map. It's a great way to visualise your travels.
