Kribi is a nice beach town and harbour in the south of Cameroon founded by German merchants. Kribi is a French speaking area.

Sights and Activities

  • Kribi Lighthouse and the Cathedral built by the Germans.
  • Chutes de Lobe (Lobe waterfalls), about 10 kilometres south of Kribi, one of the few waterfalls going directly into the sea.
  • And there are several good beaches.
  • A canoe ride up the Lobe river will bring you a pygmy village.

Getting There

By Plane

The closest airport is Douala.

By Bus

There are frequent buses from Douala and Yaounde. At least 1 bus is going further south to Campo (but not possible to go into Equatorial Guinea).
In Kribi the bus terminal is about 1 kilometre north of the centre.

Getting Around

By Public Transport

Shared taxi or motorbike taxi.

Hotels which can be booked online are comparativly expensive, especially when on a beach. The Hôtel La Grâce about 5 kilometres north of the bus terminal on the main road along the beach, is reasonable, with a decent restaurant and wifi but not online bookable.

Keep Connected

You can find Internet access all over the place, but the speed might be slow.

The country calling code to Cameroon is 237.
To make an international call from Cameroon, the code is 00.

To make local and international calls you need to buy a pre-paid SIM card. Check if your cell phone has a compatible GSM standard (Africa/Europe) - if not, in addition to a SIM card you probably need to buy a new phone. "MTN" and "Orange" are two major telephone companies in Cameroon.

National post service is considered to be unreliable.
