Málaga airport, is the best airport to fly into when you are visiting the Costa del Sol. It is located just 5 kilometres southwest of the city centre of Málaga. In 2010 the new terminal 3, has opened at Málaga airport increasing the capacity of the airport.

The airport is the fourth biggest airport in Spain after Madrid, Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca, and offers flights to over 60 countries worldwide. In 2016, over 16.6 million passengers passed through the airport, which is an increase of the 15.7% from the 2015 number of 14.4 million.

Air Europa, Norwegian, Ryanair and Vueling all have a hub at this airport.

Getting there and away

  • Rail: At the airport there is a train station of the cercanias (commuter trains). A ride to the central train station takes about 15 minutes, with trains leaving every half hour. There are also connections to Torremolinos and further on to Fuengirola.
  • Bus: Busline 19 has a service between the airport and the busstation, which located near the trainstation. Buses leave in front of the airport, approximately every 35 to 40 minutes. An airport coach goes directly to Marbella.
  • Car: The airport can easily be reached by car from Málaga and other nearby coastal towns. There are many car rental companies and also taxis are available at Málaga Airport.




There are over 30 shops in the airport, with the majority being located in the departures lounge. They sell a wide variety of products including souvenirs, leisure, electronics and fashion accessories. There are also two pharmacies and a duty-free store. In addition to these shops, there are 18 restaurants and cafes with many international brands like Starbucks, Upper Crust and Burger King.

The VIP Lounge offers a number of facilities including a meeting area, work desks and computers, internet access, sofas, newspapers & magazines and sly television. There is also complimentary hot and cold drinks and snacks. It is open daily from 06:00 to 23:00 and it is accessible to all passengers. Passengers holding a business or first class ticket can enter for free, as well as passengers with a priory card such as Priority Pass. All other passengers can pay a fee at the door to enter.

Children under the age of 6 are free to enter with an adult. Children between 6 and 10 cost €13.80 and anyone over this age cost €28.70. This lounge is located in the boarding area on floor 2, within Terminal T3.

The Wi-Fi service is available in the arrival and departure halls, as well as the departures lounge and all boarding gates. There are two type of services offered; a basic connection and a premium connection. The basic connection is free and unlimited, but its speed is limited to approximately 3 mbps and it is supported by advertisements. The premium service is unlimited and has a much faster speed, but it is a paid service with a fee of €9.00 for 24 hours access.



Airlines, Destinations and Terminals

Although there are now 3 terminals, all flights leave from the new Terminal 3. Pier B is for non-European destinations along with flights to the United Kingdom and Ireland, Pier C is for non-Schengen destinations along with flights to the United Kingdom and Ireland & Pier D is used for Schengen destinations. All flights leave from Terminal 3. Although flights to the United Kingdom and Ireland usually leave from Both Pier B and Pier C, they usually depart from Pier C, using Pier B at busy periods. Swiss European Air Lines also use the lower level of Pier B as well as Pier D.
