Introduction

The Mentawai Islands are a chain of about 70 islands, located off the western coastline of Sumatra, Indonesia. They are about 150 kilometres from Sumatra and Siberut is the largest island. Other islands include Sipura, North Pagai and South Pagai.
Sights and Activities
The Mentawai Islands are best known for surfing, which is growing in importance and is becoming a major income source. It is even rated as one of the best surf spots on the planet.
Weather
The Mentawai Islands have a tropical climate with hot and humid conditions throughout the year. Temperatures are around 30 °C during the day and 23 °C at night with little variation during the year. There is no real dry season just a less wet season which last from February to August. More rain falls from September to January when temperatures during the day are just a few degrees lower as well.

By Plane
There are flights by small planes to the islands.
By Boat
You can either take a ferry or join a boat charter by one of the surfing companies.
