The province of Upper Austria (German: Oberösterreich), is located in the Northern part of central Austria. It borders to Germany, in the west, and the Czech Republic in the north. In the central part of this Bundesland flows the river Danube. The area has about 250 museums, 19 fortresses, 48 castles and 9 monasteries; eight caves open for public; 12 nostalgia railways. It was calculated that the inhabitants of Upper Austria travel around their province a lot and make about 4.5 million tours, which gives about 119 million Euro to the province budget. Therefore, the tourism infrastructure is superb and it is simply marvellous to be there! You just want to see and to experience more and more. "Where Anyone Can Live Like an Emperor" is a tourist slogan you can often hear and see in different villages and towns we visited in this province. This province has long been a source of inspiration for many artists who came to live and to work here: Anton Bruckner, Gustav Klimt and others.

Geography

The province is divided into different regions that are often called after the natural names such as Salzkammergut, Pyhrn-Eisenwurzen, Sauwald, etc.
Linz is the province’s capital and the main city. All towns and cities are, so to say, capitals of their own small areas. This province is rich in pure water: rivers, lakes and ponds. There are mountains such as Hell Mountains, Dead Mountains, Hausruck and others.
