Following is a list of visas available to you if you are planning to visit Australia as a tourist or backpacker, with a brief description for each one.

  • ETA - basically a tourist visa that you can apply for online (no stamp or visa in your passport). Only available to citizens of 32 countries.
  • Tourist Visa - the old school variety of visa, done in paper. Available to pretty much everyone. Generally allows visits of up to three or six months.
  • Working Holiday Visa - available to citizens of 14 countries aged 18 - 30 years old. Allows you to work and travel for up to 12 months.
  • Work and Holiday Visa - similar to the Working Holiday Visa, but it's only for citizens of Chile, Iran and Thailand.
