About @baluba

64 years old • Female • Self Employed

After separating from my husband a few years ago I decided to abandon everything, house, job the lot. Sold all my possessions and set off for Africa for a year. I did originally intend on seeing a lot of Asia too but I am not very good at this budget malarky and my passion for Africa was just too strong for me to leave. I am now home and living with my sister in Brighton but the travelling bug has got me big time and have travelled to various places in Europe and more recently to West Papua, Maluku and North Sulawesi.
My next big trip will hopefully be in October this year where I plan to take a year off work to work at a wild animal rehab centre in Bolivia
I would highly recommend anyone else in a similar position to do the same, I am now completely over my separation and even forgiven him. We are now good friends!!! I am a whole new person and have some fabulous new friends all over the world.
I have a whole new future to look forward to and my travelling days are far from over.

  • Hobbies:

At the moment my time revolves around work and sorting through my thousands of photos. I also enjoy languages, know a little Russian, a little French and now a little Malagasy. I was trying Arabic but it damned hard work so sticking to French! Future hobbies will no doubt include travelling.

  • Favourite places:

I have loved them all! I find all new places fascinating. I adore where I used to live in the southwest of Scotland, it is so beautiful. Just so damn cold and wet! Hence now back down south. Madagascar is the most spectacular place I have ever been to. Zimbabwe however is probably one of my favourites. The people are so wonderful and friendly, not to mention some of the spectacular scenery.
And Ethiopia and Uganda and Botswana and Namibia and.....

Wherever you find yourself, it is where you are meant to be.

Travel Help

Having just returned from a short visit to Indonesia I may be able to help with West Papua (Fak Fak, Kokas), North Sulawesi (Tongkoko) and Maluku (Kei Kecil, Banda, Seram and Ambon). Just ask and I will see what I can do

Ask baluba a question about Asia.

I have recently returned from travelling around Madagascar on my own so if you need any advice at all, I would be happy to help. The best advice I can give is.... GO! It is a truly amazing country and the people are just fabulous.

Ask baluba a question about Madagascar.

South Africa

I have spent a month travelling around by car, staying in backpackers and know most areas. Also spent 6 weeks near Jo'burg and visited neighbouring countries. Anything you need to know, I will do my best.

Ask baluba a question about South Africa.

People seem to think that Zim is a very scary place. It is not. I can offer advice on much of the region, travelling, money, visas etc.
