Lake Calhoun, Minneapolis, MN, US 1978 - Minneapolis, USA

Lake Calhoun, Minneapolis, Minnesota, US 1978 Lake Medoza, a perfectly good name, was renamed Lake Calhoun to honor John Caldwell Calhoun (1782-1850) a Secretary of War, habitual US Vice President and a South Carolina states’ rights and slavery advocate. The park was established in 1886, and was expanded to include the entire lake by 1909. Since 1985, aggressive landscaping, Dutch elm disease, athletic venues, a ’totlot’, expanded parking and a new swamp have altered the character of the park. Current name, Bde Maka Ska - since 2018
