Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, Netherlands 2011 - national arts and history museum founded: 1800 in Den Haag / The Hague as the Nationale Kunst-Gallerij / National Art Gallery moved: 1808 to Amsterdam by Louis Bonaparte (1778-1846) who was King of Holland 1806-1810 constructed: 1876-1885 architect: Petrus ‘Pierre’ Cuypers (1827-1921) renovated: 2003-c. 2013 location: Museumplein, Jan Luijkenstraat 1 * On 3 December 2018 the "I amsterdam" sign behind the Rijksmuseum on Museumplein was removed by the city to discourage 'mass tourism' and individualism.
