A quadriga, is typically shown as a chariot powered by four horses and driven by a Greek or Roman figure that represents victory or some other meaning. The Grand Palais has two large copper ones. The two are known collectively as the Récipon Quadrigas. This one, which commands the sky near the Seine, stands for “harmony triumphing over discord.” The two quadrigas on the Grand Palais are the work of Georges Récipon, who also produced sculptures for the Pont Alexandre-III.
