The Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma by TheMiner
Built by the Crown of Aragon on the site of a Moorish-era mosque, the cathedral is 121 metres long, 55 metres wide and its nave is 44 metres tall. By way of comparison, the height of the central nave reaches 33m in Notre Dame de Paris, 38m in Reims, 42m in Notre-Dame d'Amiens and 48m in Saint-Pierre de Beauvais, the highest of all Gothic cathedrals. Designed in the Catalan Gothic style but with Northern European influences, it was begun by King James I of Aragon in 1229 but only finished in 1601. It sits within the old city of Palma atop the former citadel of the Roman city, between the Royal Palace of La Almudaina and the episcopal palace. It also overlooks the Parc de la Mar and the Mediterranean Sea. In 1901, fifty years after a restoration of the cathedral had started, Antoni Gaudí was invited to take over the project. While some of his ideas were adopted – moving the choir stalls from the middle nave to be closer to the altar, as well as a large canopy – Gaudí abandoned his work in 1914 after an argument with the contractor. The planned changes were essentially cosmetic rather than structural, and the project was cancelled soon after. wikipedia article

Stained Glass Window at Basilica Ste. Clotilde in Paris by Beausoleil
Ste. Clotilde was consecrated on the 30th November 1857 and dedicated to Ste. Clotilde, wife of Clovis, the first Christian King of France, and to Ste. Valerie. In 1897, 1,400 years after the baptism of Clovis, the sanctuary was granted the status of minor basilica by Pope Leon XIII. The style is neo-Gothic and walking into the church is a thrill. There are also free organ recitals on the famous organ after the 11 AM Mass each Sunday and the church is a venue for many concerts. We attended the Fauré "Requiem" there on our first night in Paris on one visit. What a great way to start a visit to Paris!

Église Saint-Gervais-et-Saint-Protais - Oak Crucifix by Antoine-Augustin Préault by Beausoleil
This statue of Christ carved in oak by Antoine-Augustin Préault (1809-1879) is in the Chapel of the Virgin at St. Gervais. There are also statues from the funeral monument of Michel Tellier (1603–1685) the Chancellor of Louis XIV, by Pierre Mazeline (1632–1685) and Simon Hurtelle (1648–1724). The figures include the Chancellor, in prayer; a weeping 'genie' praying at his feet; and two draped figures representing Faith and Religion. Two other figures from the group, Justice and Prudence, are found in the Louvre.
