View from Chapelle Sainte-Sixte - Eygalières in the distance by Beausoleil
Chapelle Sainte-Sixte is a tiny chapel outside the village of Eygalières. It is completely isolated and seems in a very lonely place but in reality, you just drive a few minutes into a lively market town. The views of the Alpilles are spectacular here and there are seldom other people around.

Église Saint Julien, Tursac by Beausoleil
We stopped in Tursac for lunch and afterwards walked through the tiny town to see what was there. The church was locked so we only saw the outside. The entire village was spotlessly clean and the flowers were beautiful.

Rue des Osiers in Orbec - half-timbered houses by Beausoleil
Orbec is a small town of about 2500 people that is trying very hard to stay relevent. They are currently fixing up the center of town. The other Catholic church has been renovated multiple times and is known for its beautiful renaissance stained glass windows. There is a marvelous 1568 manor house that has been made a local museum which is free and a treasure of local lore. They have several very nice restaurants, lots of parking and very friendly folks to help you find things. There is a model of the town in front of the museum that has the sights numbered and labeled.

Mont-Saint-Michel - a chapel by Beausoleil
To visit the Abbey Church you hike up to it and then purchase a ticket for admission. It is worth the hike and the admission. The cult of Saint Michael was introduced in 708 on the Mont, which became one of the greatest centers of medieval pilgrimage. The Benedictines built an abbey there from the 10th century. A challenge to the onslaught of men, time and the elements. During the Hundred Years War (14th-15th centuries), the heroic resistance of the Mont to the English made it a symbolic place of national identity. It was one of the first UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Left by the monks in 1790, the abbey was classified as a historic monument in 1874. The entire site has regained its past splendor thanks to constant restoration work.

The Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma by TheMiner
Built by the Crown of Aragon on the site of a Moorish-era mosque, the cathedral is 121 metres long, 55 metres wide and its nave is 44 metres tall. By way of comparison, the height of the central nave reaches 33m in Notre Dame de Paris, 38m in Reims, 42m in Notre-Dame d'Amiens and 48m in Saint-Pierre de Beauvais, the highest of all Gothic cathedrals. Designed in the Catalan Gothic style but with Northern European influences, it was begun by King James I of Aragon in 1229 but only finished in 1601. It sits within the old city of Palma atop the former citadel of the Roman city, between the Royal Palace of La Almudaina and the episcopal palace. It also overlooks the Parc de la Mar and the Mediterranean Sea. In 1901, fifty years after a restoration of the cathedral had started, Antoni Gaudí was invited to take over the project. While some of his ideas were adopted – moving the choir stalls from the middle nave to be closer to the altar, as well as a large canopy – Gaudí abandoned his work in 1914 after an argument with the contractor. The planned changes were essentially cosmetic rather than structural, and the project was cancelled soon after. wikipedia article
