Gentoo penguins by Sander
There is strength in numbers; Gentoo penguins are quite vulnerable to Leopard Seals when they dive into the water, so by forming a group and going in all at once, each individual penguin in this community greatly increases their own chance of not being eaten.

Hong Kong skyline around sunset by Sander
The outskirts of a typhoon near Taiwan had caused the smog in Hong Kong to be especially thick, all but obscuring the Hong Kong skyline for most of the day. Around sunset, this smog finally started to clear up a bit, allowing the neon lights on the skyscrapers to punch through, resulting in a rather gorgeous view.

An Uros girl rowing between floating islands by Sander
Although the Uros - a Peruvian tribe, living on floating reed islands on Lake Titicaca - still build and maintain the traditional huge reed boats for tourist purposes, for speedy transport from place to place they themselves seem to prefer the more familiar rowboat. In the background you can see several of their reed buildings on some of these floating islands.

36 views of El Misti: rooftop laundry at Arequipa by Sander
The guesthouse we stayed at in Arequipa had a marvellous rooftop terrace upon which we spent many hours basking in the sunshine and gazing out toward the conical volcano El Misti, towering high above everything. The majesty of this mountain is here contrasted by brightly colored laundry hanging from lines above the neighbouring residence.
Schloss Charlottenburg catching the light by Sander
Storm clouds racing by, I stood as mesmerized in front of Schloss Charlottenburg, waiting for those rare seconds when a break in the clouds would perfectly line up with the sun to make the building glow with a rare light. Nearly froze my fingers off, but it was worth every second of waiting.
