From the Orangerie overlooking the Tuileries Gardens and the Bassin Octogonal - Paris by Beausoleil
If you walk up to the Orangerie, there are walkways at the top that let you look out over the Tuileries Gardens on one side and over the Place de la Concorde on the other side. There are also benches to rest your weary feet if you've been walking all day.
Fountain of the Orators in Place Saint-Sulpice by Beausoleil
Variously called Fountain of the Orators, Fontaine Saint-Sulpice and also, in French, "La Fontaine des quatre points cardinaux," which means the "Fountain of the 4 Cardinal Directions," as it faces North, South, East, and West. This name is also a pun, because "points cardinaux" in French is a play on words. It can be understood as "Point Cardinaux" which means "not Cardinals," as all four of the bishops portrayed in the statues, while renown, were never elevated to the position of Cardinal. It is directly opposite Saint-Sulpice Church and is occasionally covered by a fair set up in the square. The annual Poesy Fair was during our current visit. We visited the Poesy Fair many years ago and one of the publishers started talking to me and ended up giving me a book of poetry which I cherish. We didn't have that luck this year but did enjoy the festival. I was also happy to get a photo before they set up the festival since the tents pretty much ruin the view.

Arc de Triomphe and the Obelisk de Louxor from the Tuileries by Beausoleil
Created by Catherine de' Medici as the garden of the Tuileries Palace in 1564, it was eventually opened to the public in 1667 and became a public park after the French Revolution. It is my absolute favorite place in Paris. Yes, I know it is crowded and everyone in Paris eventually walks through it, but I also know you can walk off this main thoroughfare and find a bench all to yourself in a lovely secluded spot and feed the ducks. There is truly something for everyone in the Tuileries including a fun fair in summer, various playgrounds for children, fountains, ponds, ducks, fish, toy sailing boats, cafés, ice cream stands, sculpture, two museums and on occasion, exotic goats mowing the grass. It is just fun and very pretty.

Jardin du Palais Royal - Fountain by Beausoleil
Pierre Fontaine created the ornamental basin in 1817. In 1992 the garden designer Mark Rudkin conceived two green rooms bordered by flower beds. The Centre des Monuments Nationaux which is in charge of running the site has devised a sustainable gardening policy based on respecting natural cycles and planting perennials. The fountain is a perfect place to find a chair and put up your feet on a very hot Paris day.

Hôtel Biron, the Musée Rodin in Paris by Beausoleil
The Musée Rodin in Paris opened in 1919 and is primarily dedicated to the works of the French sculptor Auguste Rodin. It has two sites: the Hôtel Biron and surrounding grounds in central Paris that constitute the Rodin Museum and Gardens, and another site at the Villa des Brillants in Meudon where he lived. You can get a twin ticket to the Musée d'Orsay and the Paris Rodin if you can do two museums in one day. You used to be able to visit the gardens for 4 euros but I haven't been able to find that option on their web site lately. It may be worth asking as there is a lovely tea room in the garden and quite a few marvelous sculptures in addition to the fountain and flowers.

rue Mouffetard, Paris by Beausoleil
This was "home" for our anniversary trip. We did our shopping on rue Mouffetard, attended church at St. Médard and ate occasionally at Cave Bourgogne by the Fontaine Guy Lartigue. It's a fun square with dancing in the streets on Sundays.

Fountain in the Helmsley Walled Garden by Beausoleil
The Helmsley Walled Garden was built in 1758, originally designed to provide vegetables, fruit and flowers to the Feversham family at Duncombe Park. After World War One, the garden was leased out and became a commercial enterprise until 1982. It then fell into disuse and became overgrown. In 1994 Alison Ticehurst decided to restore the garden to a beautiful place for all to enjoy, and specifically as a place for horticultural therapy for those in need. The gardens are developed and maintained by a small core of staff with the help of a dedicated band of volunteers.

Castle Howard - the Walled Garden by Beausoleil
Castle Howard has been used in quite a few films and television dramas including "'Lady L" with Sophia Loren in 1965 and "Barry Lyndon" in 1975, "Brideshead Revisited" in 1981 and 2008, the BBC's "Death Comes to Pemberley" in 2013, and recently the television series 'Victoria." There is a room with "Brideshead Revisited" memorabilia that is interesting. There are lakes and gardens, a wonderful garden center, many nice walks, a farm market and lovely fountains. When we were there, the fountains were turned off at three o'clock PM so try to get your photos before then.

The Burlington Fountain at the Cascade in the Holker Hall Gardens by Beausoleil
At the foot of the Cascade, the vista is framed by rhododendrons and oak which leads to the top of the Cascade where you will find a marble statue of Neptune, a beautiful example of 17th century Italian craftsmanship. We also found ducks, a beautiful rooster, a hen and two chicks. Finding those is not guaranteed, but the statue is.

After touring the Hall, you exit into the beautiful gardens. The gardens nearest the house are quite formal and become less so as you move out into the grounds. The Cascade and Burlington Fountain were highlights for me although it is all lovely.

Curative Waters from the Spring - Yes, you can drink the water. by Beausoleil
As you end your tour, you pass the fountain room. This is a separately drawn bore hole to the hot springs and is safe to drink. I'm not sure it cures anything, but it's fun to try. At the museum, there are free audio guides available in 17 languages. The first shrine here was built by the Celts and it has been adopted by the Romans and then the British who have all added their improvements. This is all detailed on the audio guide.

Fountain and cafés on rue Gambetta near the Tourist Office by Beausoleil
This is a good place to start (and end) a walk in St. Cyprien because there are several fun cafés for a cup of coffee after the walk. Some of the streets are very steep so the coffee is a great idea . . . or a glass of wine.

Main Square and Fountain in Daglan by Beausoleil
There is a large parking lot just past the Tourist Information Office, Maison de la Pierre Seche. Park and walk into town. The main square has a delightful fountain popular with bicyclers. You'll find restaurants, a boulangerie and a small grocery nearby. Daglan is not one of the Plus Beaux Villages of France, but it is a Ville Fleuri and exceptionally pretty. There is a park along the Céou River where you can picnic if you like.

Eyrignac Gardens by Beausoleil
The manor house and gardens are set on a hill overlooking the Vézère Valley so you have stunning view all around. We were there in late September and there were still a lot of flowers blooming. I can only imagine how lovely it is in the summer.
