Canadian National Vimy Memorial and Explosive Warning by GregW
The Canadian National Vimy Memorial which overlooks the Douai Plain from the highest point of Vimy Ridge, about ten kilometres north of Arras. Carved on the walls of the monument are the names of 11,285 Canadian soldiers who were killed in France and whose final resting place was then unknown. Still lots of unexploded shells and mines buried in the ground here. In the 1990s, a explosives expert was killed in a tunnel collapse while hunting for unexploded land minds and artillery shells.
