Essaouira, Diabat estuary of River Ksob by Bennytheball
Two kilometres south of Essaouira the River Ksob flows through the village of Diabat and into the new widened sea estuary. Before the new bridge was installed, in dry weather villagers used to cross the river, reduced to a deceptive narrow stream, over stepping stones, but in the wet season there were many tragedies when sudden flash floods swept the unwary out to sea where they drowned. Large flood basins have now been excavated to contain the overflow of the flood torrents, and the new bridge makes crossing much safer.
