Marrakesh snake charmer, Djemma el Fna Square.... by Bennytheball
Real snake charmers used to be able to coax the snake out of its box using a flute playing a tune which the reptile recognised, but this skill now appears redundant, instead after a price is agreed for the photo opportunity, the snake man will wrap the snake around the tourist's neck and use the camera to take the souvenir picture. This can be risky, there was recently a case when a snake man was bitten by his cobra whose fang stitches burst, the unfortunate man was rushed to hospital but did not survive the venomous poison.

Although not as big and impressive as the famous Istanbul cistern, 'Fortecy' still attracts its fair share of visitors, numbers are regulated at the ticket office for safety reasons, so it's advisable to arrive at opening time, in Rue Hachmi Zahbah, in the afternoon that is 3 pm after the lunchtime siesta, entrance fee with ticket is 10 dirhams.

El Jadida cistern.. by Bennytheball
The cistern was originally constructed by the Portuguese occupying forces as a gunpowder and arms store and remained sealed up for several centuries after their departure until around 1913 a shopkeeper, looking to enlarge his premises, broke through a wall and discovered it by accident, it was then adapted into a cistern to store drinking water in case of times of siege.

Essaouira Medina... by Bennytheball
In Morocco there are often unusual impromptu rituals and celebrations performed in the streets of towns and cities, this one on Avenue Zerktouni in the Mellah (Jewish Quarter) involves a celebration of ancient muskets with their Djelaba-clad owners. Fortunately the muskets are not loaded and present no danger to passers-by!
