Between 1934 and 1938, the CCC constructed walkways, stairs, handrails and lights to make the cave easier for the public to tour.

This is an idea what some of the formations look like without the flash. Lighting was installed by the CCC in the 1930's, so the cave is never pitch black (unless someone pulls the plug!)

The cave surfaces tend to be brown from centuries of accumulated dust. Since the cave is dormant, little to no water runs through it which would otherwise was the dust off.

General formations in the cave. Limestone dissolves in water, then can be recreated as stalagmites (from the ground) and stalactites (from the ceiling)
