Driving to Lacock on Prince Harry's Wedding Day by Beausoleil
We had a short drive and were hoping the Royal Wedding would keep traffic near Oxford rather than Lacock. It may have, but there was still enough traffic as the day spent itself. Why weren't these people watching the wedding on tv? We were told the Hawthorn was blooming better than it had in many years. It certainly was beautiful along the roads and fields.

Knightshayes Court - Garden by Beausoleil
The formal and woodland garden is divided into eight separate areas that include the formal garden, the garden in the wood, Holly’s wood, Sir John’s wood, Michael’s wood, the arboretum, English woodland walk and the south garden. It is a beautiful walk and you can easily spend the afternoon. There is also a walled garden kitchen garden, restored starting in 1999. All the produce grown is harvested and used. The fruits and vegetables are featured every week in their Stables Café. They also supply the local Pannier Market in Tiverton for around seven months of the year.

Knightshayes Court - Entrance Courtyard by Beausoleil
There are benches here and entrances to a tea room and to the house itself. You can walk around the tea room to visit the garden if you prefer. If you turn around, the views are magnificent over the surrounding countryside.

Knightshayes Court - Bedroom by Beausoleil
The house was built by Sir John Heathcoat Amory, the grandson of John Heathcoat, creator of the mechanized bobbin lace-making machine and owner of a lace factory in Tiverton. The house is marvelous Victorian and there are two lovely gardens. There is a tea room in the former stables and walks throughout the estate.

Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life by Beausoleil
The Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life looks quite small but when you get inside, it goes up and down and in and out and is really rather a good-sized museum. They even have a real locomotive engine inside and it's set up so you can have your picture taken as the engineer. There are exhibits covering Mid Devon prehistory to current time. Of particular interest are the exhibits on the lace making industry that is there. The Tiverton Tourist Office is directly inside the museum and both are worth a visit.
