Abbaye de Bon Repos - interior display by Beausoleil
A ruined abbey on the Blavet River section of the Nantes-Brest Canal. The adjoining building holds Les Minéraux de l'Abbaye with information about various minerals and a rock shop that includes some lovely jewelry. The abbey is a ruin but well cared for and they have an artist in residence each year so there is always interesting art. There is a son et lumière in the summer. On this trip (2021) José Piez was the artist in residence and you were encouraged to play all his instruments. It was originally a Cistercian Abbey built in the 1100s. Their web site has a fascinating history.

Petit Palais Art Museum by Beausoleil
The Petit Palais is the City of Paris Museum of Fine Arts. It was built for the 1900 Exposition Universelle and is located across from the Grand Palais on Avenue Winston-Churchill. As a city museum it is free of charge although you will pay for most special exhibits. There is an amazingly large and diverse collection of paintings along with furniture, decor and entire rooms on exhibit. There are ancient and medieval works, works from the French and Italian Renaissance and Flemish and Dutch paintings. You will find paintings from major French artists of the 19th century such as Delacroix, Monet, Sisley, Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec and Courbet among others. A new sculpture exhibit is to open in 2020 although the opening may be delayed by the corona virus lockdown.

Atelier des Lumières - Van Gogh Show in Paris by Beausoleil
This is Van Gogh's "The Church at Auvers" which is one of my favorites. We were planning to visit Auvers to see the church and area next September but the corona virus may make this impossible. We'll get there someday. The Atelier des Lumières is in a former foundry building. It was opened in 2018 as an interactive art space. We were there in June of 2019 and there were three shows, Van Gogh, the Starry Night; Japan Dreamed, Images of the Floating World; and Verse which was very short. You see all three and can walk around or sit or even lie on the floor if you wish. Photography is allowed but no flash which would ruin the show. It's a fascinating experience. Reservation only.

Musée d’Archéologie Nationale et Domaine National de Saint-Germain-en-Laye by Beausoleil
The Musée d’Archéologie Nationale et Domaine National de Saint-Germain-en-Laye covers the history of France back to the stone age. There are ancient bones, artifacts, art and information throughout the several floors of the château. We visited for the Henri II special exhibit, but having finished that, we decided to continue through the main exhibits so returned via the beautiful Courtyard to the main château and archeological exhibits. We left for lunch nearby and returned to spend the afternoon exploring prehistoric France, the Gauls and the Roman rule.

Hôtel de Chimay of the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts - Paris by Beausoleil
As we walked past, they were setting up a sculpture exhibit in the courtyard so it was closed but I snapped a couple photos through the window grids. Located in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés in Paris, steps away from the Louvre Museum, the school, spreads over five acres between the Rue Bonaparte and the Quai Malaquais and houses prestigious historical collections and holds exhibitions in the Hôtel de Chimay on Quai Malaquais and in the Chapel throughout the year. The mission of the school is to educate and train students planning to devote themselves to high-level artistic creation. The exhibits are nearly always worth a visit.

Sealing wax at Sizergh Castle by Beausoleil
The seal and wax were one of the exhibits at Sizergh Castle and feature the three scallop shells that are on the Strickland Family Crest. The shells are found throughout the castle and it's fun to look for them. There are guided tours for 1 GBP each and then you can return and explore on your own or you can explore only on your own. We took the tour and felt it was a GBP well spent as our guide was excellent. We had lunch and then returned to look through the castle at our leisure which was also fun since we had taken the tour earlier and had more time to look at things in the afternoon.

Stained glass and exhibits at the Durham Museum and Heritage Centre by Beausoleil
The Durham Museum and Heritage Centre is housed in the former Saint-Mary-le-Bow Church. It is an overview of the history of Durham and a small but interesting museum hidden downhill behind the Cathedral. Be sure to check the garden as there are two wonderful statues by sculptor Fenwick Lawson. There is a bronze copy of the Saint Cuthbert statue at Lindisfarne.

There are some Interactive Exhibits by Beausoleil
The Interactive Exhibits are always fun. At the museum, there are free audio guides available in 17 languages. The first shrine here was built by the Celts and it has been adopted by the Romans and then the British who have all added their improvements. This is all detailed on the audio guide.

Local Art Exhibit by Beausoleil
The village of Lacock is a National Trust site and also site of many filmings, including the ever-popular Harry Potter set at Lacock Abbey. There are no overhead wires, satellite dishes nor antennae in town so with a layer of sand or dirt on the street, you are transported back hundreds of years.
