Nunnington Hall - Drawing Room by Beausoleil
Nunnington Hall is a beautiful Elizabethan manor house situated on the edge of the North York Moors. The river Rye runs past the house, flowing away from the village of Nunnington. A stone bridge over the river separates the grounds of the house from the village. The Hall stands within 8 acres of organically managed grounds. The Walled Garden contains lawns, orchards, formal rose beds, mixed borders, a Tea Garden, and an Iris Garden. The orchards are managed as wildflower meadows growing below the fruit trees of which most are traditional Ryedale varieties. Another feature of the gardens are the resident peacocks. Inside the 17th-century manor house you can visit the magnificent oak-paneled hall, family rooms, the nursery, the haunted room and the attics, with the famous Carlisle collection of miniature rooms fully furnished to reflect different periods. We were also fortunate enough to see an exhibit of watercolors by David Birtweistle.

Whitestonecliffe Inn by Beausoleil
Driving from Dalton-in-Furness to Pickering we planned to stop for lunch in Thirsk. However, when we arrived, the town water was shut off and the restaurants were either closed or serving cold sandwiches on paper plates, We opted to move on for lunch elsewhere and found Whitestonecliffe Inn at Sutton-under-Whitestonecliffe. It was friendly, cozy and had excellent food. Good choice.

Sizergh Castle - Interior by Beausoleil
There are guided tours for 1 GBP each and then you can return and explore on your own or you can explore only on your own. We took the tour and felt it was a GBP well spent as our guide was excellent. We had lunch and then returned to look through the castle at our leisure which was also fun since we had taken the tour earlier and had more time to look at things in the afternoon.

Interior of Beatrix Potter's Hill Top Farm by Beausoleil
Not a lot of photos from inside the house because it was rather dark. It was a rainy day and there isn't much lighting inside. I got a few photos and we thoroughly enjoyed the visit, especially seeing her paintings.

The George Inn - Lacock by Beausoleil
Lacock itself dates back to the 13th century and has remained largely unchanged over the centuries with its many lime washed, half-timbered and stone buildings. One of those buildings, The George Inn, established circa 1361 has an amazing history and is famous for its medieval open fire place with a dog wheel that you can see in the top left of the photo. The little dog used to run inside the wheel to turn the very large spit you see in the fireplace to the left. The food is excellent and the service friendly.

Frou Frou Café Bistro in Tiverton - a favorite by Beausoleil
We found this restaurant the first day in Tiverton and managed to eat there three times during the week. It has great food, is reasonable in cost and very friendly. It is also very French which we loved.

Château de Cheverny by Beausoleil
The Château de Cheverny has been continuously occupied for 600 years. There have been renovations, but it has always been a home to the family so the rooms are all furnished, many opulently. There are magnificent works of art including paintings, tapestries and statues so it's one of the more exciting châteaux to visit in the Loire. The gardens are very nice but do not rival Chaumont or Villandry. There are activities for children and a special (extra fee) museum for fans of Tin Tin. You can also observe the feeding of the hounds nearly every day except the odd times during hunting season when they are working. Check the web site for feeding times and dates. If you really want to see a superb performance at feeding time, drive to the Abbaye du Val des Choues where their hounds are exceptionally well trained.

Medieval room in the castle keep by Beausoleil
The rest of the château is renaissance style but the keep retains its medieval flavor. The Keep is all that remained when the original castle was taken down in 1532 to build the new renaissance structure we know today. Chateau of Villandry is the last of the great chateaux of the Loire built during the Renaissance in the Loire Valley. It was modified over the years until 1906 when Dr. Joachim Carvallo and his American wife Ann Coleman bought and restored it to its Renaissance grandeur. The Carvallo family still own it and are continuing renovations and improvements. If you time your visits several years apart, you can see the changes. It's fun to watch the transformation. Many people go to Villandry to visit the gardens and will tell you to skip the château. Don't listen to them. The château is wonderful and gets better each year. Furthermore, the view of the gardens from the top of the tower is magnificent. Then, after you climb down from the tower, visit the gardens and enjoy them too. You can easily spend a full day at Villandry.

Tapestry and chest in Château de Beynac by Beausoleil
The advertisement is that you have a view of the Valley of Five Castles and on a clear day, this is true. You can stand on the ramparts and count them. It is also fun to visit them if you have the time. Beynac was once the castle of Richard the Lionheart and several movies have been made here. This is a 12th century fortress with many additions over the ensuing years.

Château d’Assier by Beausoleil
Galiot de Genouillac, Commander-in-Chief under Francis I of France, built a Château in Assier using the ideas of Renaissance architecture that were emerging at that time in the Loire Valley. This is one of the ground floor rooms containing various sculptures and remnants from the original buildings.

Renaissance Fireplace in the Priory House by Beausoleil
The Priory was founded in the 10th century and has changed hands several times. The huge fireplace was recently restored and is worthy of a visit although the rest of the Priory is extremely interesting.

The modern portion was founded by the Maurist fathers in 1687 and privately owned. The medieval portion is public property owned by the Conseil Général de l’Aude who is supporting a restoration project. This portion dates back to before the latter part of the 8th century.

all typical Bulgarian restaurants in Bansko look the same warmish folklor style and serve the same food and same music. Fireplace is almost must (and that's great!)
