The Hôtel de Sens by Beausoleil
The Hôtel de Sens or Hôtel des archevêques de Sens is a medieval hôtel particulier, or private mansion, in the Marais, in the 4th arrondissement of Paris, France. It houses the Forney art library where we went to see an exhibit. Built between 1475 and 1519 as a residence for the Archbishop of Sens, during the Trois Glorieuses street fights of 1830, a cannonball hit the facade and lodged deep within the wall. It is still visible above the main entrance with the date engraved under it. The Forney art library is open to research but you must apply. We were there for the exposition, “A Life in Colors, from Matisse to Prévert” of book illustrations by Jacqueline Duhême. We walked up the stairs to see the Bibliotheque but, of course, could not enter so I took a couple photos through the beautiful doors. The beautiful gardens are open to the public, one of the beautiful green spots of Paris.
