Entrance to Wray Castle by Beausoleil
Driving from Hawkshead to Dove Cottage, we passed Wray Castle. This would be a fabulous visit if you have the time. Unfortunately that day we did not but it is an impressive castle overlooking Lake Windermere.

Feeding swans at the ferry terminal by Beausoleil
This gentleman was cheerfully feeding swans who were happily taking his offerings. He was surrounded by tourists shooting photos (including me).

This friendly fellow followed our ferry for nearly the entire length of Lake Windermere by Beausoleil
Soon after our ferry departed the terminal at Bowness, this friendly gull decided to follow us. He managed to keep up with the ferry nearly the entire way to Lakeside. Once he stopped for something but was soon back beside us. Needless to say, we were all taking his picture.

The ferry landing at Bowness on Windermere - feeding swans by Beausoleil
The swans here actually beg from the tourists. I've never seen swans beg before. These were very chubby swans . . .

We landed in Bowness at lunch time and after one false start found The Albert, a delightful, warm and friendly pub.

Bowness from the ferry landing by Beausoleil
We arrived in Bowness by ferry so walked into town looking for lunch. The little harbor area is very picturesque with different boats, many birds and lots of excited tourists.

Feeding frenzy at the ferry landing in Bowness on Lake Windermere by Beausoleil
When we departed the ferry at Bowness on Lake Windermere, there were tourists all over the place feeding a great variety of birds, gulls, swans, ducks, and various smaller birds. Everyone seemed to be enjoying it.

Our ferry coming in to the train station at Lakeside by Beausoleil
We were just leaving the train as our ferry arrived. We quickly transferred from train to ferry and were soon on our way to Bowness on Lake Windermere.
