Nansen was an Arctic explorer who developed many of the techniques later used by other polar explorers such as Amundsen. The ship Fram, most famous due to it being used by Amundsen on his successful South Pole expedition, was originally designed for Nansen's expedition to find the Northwest Passage. Nansen was also a scientist and, later in life, a diplomat who won the Nobel Peace Prize. Polar Museum (Polarmuseet), Tromso, Norway
