Mirepoix - Eglise Saint-Maurice - rose window by Beausoleil
Saint Maurice is listed on Google Maps and many other places as a Cathedral but it hasn't been the seat of a bishop since 1801. It is the parish church of Mirepoix and important because it has the second widest nave of a gothic church in Europe. Only Girona in Spain is wider. In medieval times, the Bishop of Mirepoix was seated here and it was officially a cathedral. It was renovated at one time by Viollet-le-Duc and is still impressive with twelve side altars and much of the paint remaining.

Église de Saint Germain des Prés by Beausoleil
The church of Saint-Germain-des-Prés is an old Benedictine abbey of Paris founded in 543 by the Merovingian king Childebert I and the bishop of Paris Saint Germain. The abbey has had several names including Saint-Vincent and Sainte-Croix. It is a royal abbey and is directly subject to the Pope. The current choir was built in the middle of the 12th century in the Gothic style and consecrated by Pope Alexander III on April 21, 1163. It is one of the first French Gothic buildings and in the world. After the Revolution, all abbeys were abolished and St. Germain became a saltpetre factory. Worship was restored April 29, 1803. Main Altar at Basilica Ste. Clotilde in Paris by Beausoleil
Ste. Clotilde was consecrated on the 30th November 1857 and dedicated to Ste. Clotilde, wife of Clovis, the first Christian King of France, and to Ste. Valerie. In 1897, 1,400 years after the baptism of Clovis, the sanctuary was granted the status of minor basilica by Pope Leon XIII. The style is neo-Gothic and walking into the church is a thrill. There are also free organ recitals on the famous organ after the 11 AM Mass each Sunday and the church is a venue for many concerts. We attended the Faurék "Requiem" there on our first night in Paris on one visit. What a great way to start a visit to Paris!

Église Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis - Organ by Beausoleil
Église Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis is a church on rue Saint-Antoine in the Marais. The present building was constructed from 1627 to 1641 by the Jesuit architects Étienne Martellange and François Derand, on the orders of Louis XIII of France. The Saint Paul Metro station is named after the church. Two clam-shell holy water holders were a gift from Victor Hugo when his daughter was married there. Delacroix painted "Christ in agony on the Mount of Olives" for the church which can be seen to the left of the altar. The church's grand tribune organ was classified as a historic monument in 1867 and was restored in 1972.
Eglise Saint-Nicolas du Chardonnet by Beausoleil
We were doing a Paris Walk and noticed the back of a substantial church so we decided to take a detour. We walked around to the front and entered to discover a lovely church located on an equally lovely square (triangular square if there is such a thing). The church is a little unusual in that since 1977, after expelling the parish priest and his assistants, the church has been used by the traditionalist Society of St. Pius X and remains in the Society's hands. If you long for the good old days, this is where you will find them.

Interior of St. James Church in Chipping Campden by Beausoleil
There was a Norman church on this site before AD 1180. About AD 1490 the nave was reconstructed on the foundations of the old Norman nave. The great window over the chancel arch was added, and around AD 1500 the 120 foot West tower was built. There is a peal of eight bells, whose dates vary from AD 1618 to AD 1737 that were recast and rehung in 1987. There is a nearby inn named Eight Bells in reference to the tower bells. It's a great place for lunch if you're visiting the church.

Organ and Wagon Roof at St. Catherine's Church by Beausoleil
Originally the chapel of a Clunaic Priory, the original church dates to Norman times. However, the current church seems to date to the 13th century. The wagon roof is beautiful and the organ was restored in 1981. Parts of the original church are visible in the garden if you check the church web site for information.

The magnificent 15th century sandstone rood screen in the church of St. Mary. The Church is on High Street in Totnes.
