Claude et Paloma jouant à la balle by Françoise Gilot by Beausoleil
One of my favorite Picasso paintings is of a child playing with a truck so I was delighted to see this painting by Picasso's partner of 10 years, Françoise Gilot, of their two children playing with a ball. The Picasso Museum in Paris has a small but very nice collection of Gilot's paintings. The Picasso Museum is a treasure. It covers all his oeuvres and periods and the building is a marvelous old Paris Hotel Particular with a lovely garden. There are Picasso museums in various parts of France and I love the all, but this one has the largest collection and covers the most periods of his life. My next favorite is the one in Antibes because it is right on the ocean and has a spectacular view although the collection is rather small.

The Gustave Moreau Museum - The Studio by Beausoleil
Gustave Moreau was the son of an architect and he first traveled to Italy at age 15 and was deeply influenced. He experienced both failure and success at the Paris School of Beaux Arts but ultimately taught there and two of his pupils were Georges Rouault and Henri Matisse. His father bought him the house at 14 rue de La Rochefoucauld. He arranged to have the house turned into a museum which he willed to the French state on condition it be kept as is in perpetuity. In 1883 he was named an Officer of the Legion of Honor however had only one solo exhibition in his lifetime and was not elected to the Académie des Beaux-Arts until 1888. One of the highlights of the museum is the magnificent spiral staircase leading to the upper floors.

Marmottan-Monet Museum - Paris - Claude Monet - "Water Lilies". by Beausoleil
The Marmottan-Monet Museum holds the largest collection of paintings by Claude Monet in the world. It is in a beautiful mansion just off the Ranelagh Parc in Paris and has a marvelous collection in addition to the Monet collection. The big surprise for us the first time was a wonderful collection of illuminated manuscripts in an upstairs studio. This is easily our favorite museum in Paris and easy to reach by Metro or bus.

Marmottan-Monet Museum - Courbet - "Femme au Podoscaphe" by Beausoleil
2024 was the year of the Paris Olympics and most of the museums had at least one exhibit featuring paintings of sport. This was at the Marmottan-Monet. I don't believe there is a Podoscaphe event in the Olympics.
Marmottan-Monet Museum - Thomas Eakins - "The Biglin Brothers Racing" by Beausoleil
This was in the Sport Exhibit done for the 2024 Paris Olympics. The painting is by Thomas Eakins, an American painter and one represented in our local Sacramento California art museum.
Marmottan-Monet Museum - Camille Pissarro - "Les Boulevards Extérieurs, Effet de Neige" by Beausoleil
Pissarro has always been a favorite of ours.
Marmottan-Monet Museum - Gustave Caillebotte - "Rue de Paris, Temps de Pluie" by Beausoleil
I actually have an umbrella with this painting on it. I've used it a lot more in Paris than at home since it hardly ever rains where we live.
