Getting that unique photo ......? by Tabithag
I always feel a little uncomfortable taking close up photos of people; I tend not to take them much, but if I do I always ask. Sadly, I've noticed many fellow travellers who seem to think that they can do whatever they like to get the photo they want, sometimes quite intrusively or a way that treats their subject like a exhibit, rather than a fellow person. This young monk in Mandalay was obviously happy to pose for the cameras - and he had no shortage of takers for that 'unique' monk shot.

We sat at a café in front of Gum, across the road from the Kremlin to enjoy a beer and soak up the atmosphere and escape in the shade from the 35°C temperature. We were stunned to receive the bill - 1000 roubles for 2 small beers and 2 cappucinos - about £20.
