Église Saint-Germain-en-Laye by Beausoleil
Directly across from the Château and beside the RER station is the beautiful neo-classic Église Saint-Germain-en-Laye with lovely murals and some very interesting stained glass. We were fortunate to hear the organist rehearsing so sat and enjoyed the impromptu recital.

Musée d’Archéologie Nationale et Domaine National de Saint-Germain-en-Laye by Beausoleil
The Musée d’Archéologie Nationale et Domaine National de Saint-Germain-en-Laye covers the history of France back to the stone age. There are ancient bones, artifacts, art and information throughout the several floors of the château. We visited for the Henri II special exhibit, but having finished that, we decided to continue through the main exhibits so returned via the beautiful Courtyard to the main château and archeological exhibits. We left for lunch nearby and returned to spend the afternoon exploring prehistoric France, the Gauls and the Roman rule.

After lunch, we returned to the Archeology Museum and continued our way through the exhibits. The entire museum really is a full day if there is a special exhibit or if you are interested in paleontology . . . or both.

Henri II Renaissance in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, a special exhibit at the Musée d’Archéologie Nationale et Domaine National de Saint-Germain-en-Laye. Henri II was King of France from 31 March 1547 until his death in 1559. He was married to Catherine d'Medici and his mistress was the famous Diane de Poitiers to whom he gifted the lovely Château de Chenonceau famously reclaimed by Catherine at Henri's death in 1559. Diane was left with Château de Chaumont. In the chapel at the end of the exhibit, there was a tv screen running a short movie on Henri II and life during his reign.

Musée d’Archéologie Nationale et Domaine National de Saint-Germain-en-Laye by Beausoleil
This is the Château at Saint-Germain-en-Laye outside of Paris. It holds the National Archeology Museum and is the second thing you see when you exit the RER station in town. The first thing is the wonderful Église Saint Germain. Both are worth a visit as is the garden at the château with a stunning overlook of Paris in the distance. If you can take binoculars, the view deserves them. There is also a small Debussy Museum attached to the Tourist Office in town.
