The Circus came to Trèbes after we left . . . by Beausoleil
After returning to Mollèges to turn in our recycling, we spent most of the rest of the day driving from there to Carcassonne. We chose to avoid the AutoRoute since we had all day and took the road along the seashore and then inland past Bezier and into Occitanie to Carcassonne. It’s a beautiful drive.

Driving from Maussane back to Molléges we passed through fantastic olive country, vineyards, the Alpilles, Les Baux and St.-Remy-de-Provence. Drives don't get much better than that.

Crossing the Durance River in the rain by Beausoleil
The valley of the Durance river is amazing. There is a lot of industry but there is stunning scenery too. There are beautiful villages perched on the surrounding hills and the river has worn a wide valley for the wandering water.

Plan d’Orgon - Église Notre-Dame-de-Beauregard way up on the hill by Beausoleil
Driving from Mollégès to nearly anyplace north, we had to go through a town called Plan d'Organ. The most notable sight was a monastery at the top of a giant rock hill just south of the town. There are huge rock cliffs and the church is perched at the very top. There is a road up and fabulous views from the garden but the road is not for the faint-hearted. It is a very narrow one lane with no guard rails, solid rock straight up on one side and solid rock straight down on the other side.

Rue “Rompe Cul”, from the Provençal “Roumpo qiéu” which means “Break ass” is very steep and although difficult to climb, be even more wary on the way down! It is said in Châteauneuf-du-Pape that the falls were so numerous over the centuries that it is still possible to hear the cries and swearing of the victims of this street.
