Mollèges - Back to the recycling center between the church and the stadium by Beausoleil
We were leaving for Carcassonne and had forgotten to drop our recyclables at the center in Mollèges so turned around and drove back to leave them. We knew where it was and it was a short detour into a cute part of town and a good way to say goodbye to Mollèges.
Sénas - Sculpture at Place Auguste Jaubert reflecting the wine industry in the area by Beausoleil
Driving back to Mollégès from Mallemort, we always pass through Sénas. It is a pretty industrial town but has everything you could possibly need. We've shopped there and years ago used the automatic laundry on Place Auguste Jaubert. When you get past the town, the D7N reverts to its tree-lined beauty.

Mollégès - the newly renovated Château by Beausoleil
Mollégès is a village in Provence that is currently growing. It is nearly a suburb of Saint-Remy-de-Provence and very near Avignon and many of the Provencal perched villages. It's a great central base for exploring the Luberon. They recently renovated the Château and the town is spic and span. They have all the necessities of life including good roads. It also manages to be quiet and fairly untouristed. They have a monument to the draft horse that is unique in the world. It is the cheval de trait and is the only stone monument to a draft horse carved from a single block of stone. It stands in front of the Château and near the stadium, church and recycling center . . . and free parking. The monument was carved by Camille Soccorsi from Tarascon. Work on the church, Église Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens, undertaken in the 1960s revealed paintings from the 19th century. The decoration of the choir with its landscapes of Provence was recently carried out by Anastasie Tchougounova-Tetrel. These also appear to be somewhat unique since we haven't seen anything similar in churches in Provence.

Vin des Sables, nearing Aigues-Mortes - a roundabout by Beausoleil
We were driving from Trèbes to Mollégès and decided to stop at Aigues-Mortes for lunch. We passed this rather large flamingo on the way.

Fontefroide Abbey - The 100th Anniversary Rose - 100th anniversary of La Renaissance Francaise by Beausoleil
The former Cistercian Abbey of Fontfroide is located in the foothills of the Corbières, southwest of Narbonne. Now classified as a Historic Monument, Fontfroide Abbey was founded in 1093 on land given to some Benedictine monks by the Viscount of Narbonne. The abbey takes its name from the source nearby, the Fons Frigidus, the Cold Fountain. It was eventually associated with the Order of Citeaux. The Cistercian monks were under the direction of St Bernard of Clairvaux. As a side note, the assassination of Brother Pierre de Castelnau, a monk from Fontfroide who had become the Pope's legate, was to trigger the Crusade against the Albigensians. The French Revolution put an end to all monastic life and separation of the Church and the State resulted in the departure of the last monks in 1901. In 1908, Gustave and Madeleine Fayet bought the abbey at an auction. Gustave Fayet, an artist and museum curator, is best known for his talent as a visionary art collector and this is reflected in the now-private site that is Abbaye de Fontefroide. To this day it remains in private hands and is therefore often open when many other National Monuments are closed for French holidays.
