Sheep across from the car park in Hutton-le-Hole by Beausoleil
There was an adjoining Pinfold but these sheep seem not to have noticed. They were wandering freely along the roadside utterly ignoring their little corral.

Lacock Abbey with sheep by Beausoleil
The Botanic Garden at Lacock Abbey is extensive and fascinating. We started at the Greenhouse and adjacent herb garden. As we slowly wandered the garden paths, we were joined by a cute grey cat with white paws that I cheerfully named Abby since she was an Abbey cat. She followed us through the rose garden and all the way to Bide Brook before something else caught her attention. There are lovely views from the garden including of St. Cyriac's Church in the distance.

Following like sheep . . . Lacock Abbey by Beausoleil
Lacock Abbey was founded in the early 13th century by Ela, Countess of Salisbury, as a nunnery in the Augustinian order. It remained a convent until the dissolution in the 16th century when it was then sold to Sir William Sharington who converted the convent into a residence where he and his family lived. The house was built over the old cloisters and its main rooms are on the first floor. The Tudor stable courtyard to the north of the house has retained many of its original features including the brewhouse and bakehouse but the rest of the house is a very mixed combination of styles due to constant changes and improvements over the years. The house was inherited by the Talbot family, and during the 19th century was the home of William Henry Fox Talbot. In 1835 he made what may be the earliest surviving photographic camera negative, an image of one of the windows. The house and the surrounding village of Lacock were given to the National Trust in 1944. The abbey houses the Fox Talbot Museum in the old Abbey barn.

Standing Stones at Avebury by Beausoleil
The world's largest stone circle surrounds a small village. When you start walking amongst the stones, they seem to go on forever. Unlike Stonehenge, you can walk right up to them and touch them and get a real feeling for the size of both stones and the site that holds them. According to Wikipedia: "The chronology of Avebury's construction is unclear. It was not designed as a single monument, but is the result of various projects that were undertaken at different times during late prehistory. Aubrey Burl suggests dates of 3000 BC for the central cove, 2900 BC for the inner stone circle, 2600 BC for the outer circle and henge, and around 2400 BC for the avenues." There is a large henge with a large outer stone circle and two separate smaller stone circles inside the center. The original purpose is unknown although archaeologists believe that it was probably used for some form of ritual or ceremony and more recent suggestions have been that it was an ancient observatory. Nearby are West Kennet Long Barrow, Windmill Hill and Silbury Hill, all worth a visit.

Parking is beside Montacute House and the tour starts in the front pasture. There are sheep in the pasture which is kind of funny because you are dodging sheep as you listen to your guide.
