Projection of St. Denis in his tomb at Basilique Cathédrale de Saint-Denis by Beausoleil
You go down into the ancient crypt beneath St. Denis and wander through excellent exhibits, stained glass and more tombs. At one point you come to this excavation that is empty except they have projected an image of St. Denis holding his head onto the floor of the tomb.

Exhibit in the Crypt of St. Denis holding his severed head. by Beausoleil
One of several exhibits at Basilique Cathédrale de Saint-Denis. St. Denis is always depicted holding his severed head. Saint Denis supposedly picked up his head after being decapitated and walked six miles while preaching a sermon of repentance the entire way. He is easy to find above the door into Notre Dame de Paris as he holds his head.

Stained glass in the crypt at Basilique Cathédrale de Saint-Denis by Beausoleil
We went to Basilique Cathédrale de Saint-Denis outside Paris to find some of my ancestors who are buried there. In the process we explored the entire church and discovered this beautiful stained glass window in the Crypt. If you visit the Basilica, be aware that you must pay to visit the necropolis where all the tombs are located. The entire church is surely worth the visit.
