Château-Musée-de-Saint-Germain-de-Livet - one of the swans by Beausoleil

Listed as a Historic Monument, the Château de Saint-Germain-de-Livet is located 10 minutes from Lisieux. Surrounded by moats where majestic swans sail, this architectural gem includes a half-timbered manor from the 15th century and a checkerboard construction of stones and glazed bricks from Pré d'Auge from the end of the 16th century. The museum contains the furniture and collections of the family who donated the estate to the city of Lisieux in 1958. An overview of living in the 19th century invites you to discover the artistic and personal career of the painter Léon Riesener, grandson of the cabinetmaker Jean-Henri Riesener and cousin of the famous artist Eugène Delacroix.

Our neighborhood swan by Beausoleil

We had a pair of nesting swans across the road from our English cottage. Many mornings we saw them, but this morning the weather was clear enough to get a good picture of one with his reflection in the pond.

Feeding swans at the ferry terminal by Beausoleil

This gentleman was cheerfully feeding swans who were happily taking his offerings. He was surrounded by tourists shooting photos (including me).

The ferry landing at Bowness on Windermere - feeding swans by Beausoleil

The swans here actually beg from the tourists. I've never seen swans beg before. These were very chubby swans . . .

Swan nesting across the road from our cottage. by Beausoleil

This lovely picture greeted us every morning. The first morning I looked out the window and noticed something white across the road on a small pond. I grabbed the binoculars our host provided and saw the two swans. Then I grabbed my camera and started shooting. Sometimes you saw both and sometimes only one of them but they were nearly always out in the early morning.

Swans swimming at low tide beside the Lindisfarne Causeway by Beausoleil

I can't resist a swan . . . especially three swans. We were driving across the Lindisfarne Causeway at low tide (the only time you can drive it) and we spotted these three beautiful swans so I snapped their picture out of the car window.

Swan begging near the Crane Street bridge over the river Avon by Beausoleil

The lovely river Avon flows through Salisbury and has gardens along it much of the way. The swans quickly learn that you can expect treats from gullible townsfolk and tourists.
