View from the train window returning to Paris from a lovely day in Chartres by Beausoleil

Chartres is a very pleasant train ride from Paris and a great day trip. It is also nice to get out of the city for a day and enjoy the countryside and a smaller town.

Chartres - the Little Tourist Train by Beausoleil

These little tourist trains are in nearly every town of any size. They are really fun and a good way to get oriented so you can walk around without getting lost. We've been to Chartres several times so didn't need orientation but I couldn't resist taking a photo of the train. They are cute and the people always wave at you.

Train stops from Paris to Chartres by Beausoleil

We took a day trip to Chartres while staying Paris. It's an easy and very nice train ride. The one we took stopped at Versailles-Chantiers, Rambouillet, Épernon, Maintenon and we got off at Chartres. The town is small enough you can walk everyplace from the train station but if you only want to visit the famous Cathedral, it is about a five-minute walk from the train station so very easy. There is a marvelous stained glass museum across from the Cathedral and behind it is the Chartres Beaux Arts Museum. If you enjoy a little walking, the old town is lovely and there are three other churches well worth a visit. The Tourist Office also has a nice walking tour along the river with wonderful views of the Cathedral from the river. You can easily spend a day or two in Chartres if you have the time.
