Restaurant Marty - Everything is Home Made by Beausoleil
Family-owned since 1930, everything is made on the spot. It is a tiny bit more expensive than some other places but truly worth every penny. The restaurant is beautiful; the staff excellent and the food beyond reproach. Even better, they are open every day except Sunday evening.

Some of many paintings at Place du Tertre on Montmartre in Paris by Beausoleil
Place du Tertre is a major tourist destination on Montmartre. There are shops, restaurants and lots of artists who are selling their paintings or offering to do your portrait. It's very crowded and very touristy but lots of fun. It's one of those places every visitor to Paris should see at least once. Just expect lots of company.

Pont Neuf in the Rain - Paris by Beausoleil
The Pont Neuf, despite being called the New Bridge, is the oldest standing bridge crossing the Seine River in Paris. Construction started in 1578 and it was inaugurated by Henri IV in 1607,

Place de Passy - two views by Beausoleil
We were doing one of our Paris Walks and walking from lunch to the Passy Metro station. The building at the edge of Place de Passy caught my eye (left photo) and then the very busy Place de Passy with all the people grabbed our attention. A very busy, fun part of Paris and probably a good place to go shopping.

Walking to the Ryedale Folk Museum (in the rain) by Beausoleil
Yes, it was raining again. This was theme of both our trips to England this past year. I made good use of my new rainjacket.

Entrance to the Courtyard with restaurants and facilities by Beausoleil
Holker Hall, home of the Cavendish Family, has never been bought or sold but passed by inheritance through just three families: the Prestons, the Lowthers and the Cavendishes, with each generation leaving its impression by either altering the landscape or by changing the house by adding, refacing, embellishing or even rebuilding, as happened to the New Wing after the disastrous fire of 1871. There is an excellent display about the famous fire. We took a tour in the morning, had lunch there and wandered the Hall and Gardens by ourselves in the afternoon.

Caffe Riva in Bowness-in-Windermere by Beausoleil
Pretty café at the corner of A5074 and A592 at St. Martin's Place in Bowness-in-Windermere. It's across from the Parish Church of Saint Martin which is a must-see in Bowness.

The Post Office . . . and the Post Office Café on Lindisfarne Island by Beausoleil
This café was suggested to us and we were surprised to find it attached to the real Post Office. I don't think they're connected in any way except by being in the same building, but it was a very good restaurant and we had a lovely lunch there.

The Red Lion Inn by Beausoleil
The world's largest stone circle surrounds a small village. Within the village are St. James Church, Avebury Manor and the Alexander Keiller Museum that is arranged in two parts, the Stables Gallery that displays archaeological treasures from this World Heritage Site and the Barn Gallery that is a 17th-century threshing barn that houses interactive displays. There is a tea room at the Manor House, a snack bar at the Barn Gallery and the Red Lion Inn overlooking the stone circles.

Umbrellas on high . . . on High Street, Exeter by Beausoleil
We saw a similar umbrella display at Angers, France the year before. This was on High Street in Exeter in front of St. Stephen's Church. Very cheerful but not much help on a rainy day . . .

Lunch at The Tea on the Green by Beausoleil
A fun place for lunch or tea on the green beside Exeter Cathedral. There was a lot of construction on that corner the day we were there, but food and service were great. We had the Sunday roast and loved it.

Fountain and cafés on rue Gambetta near the Tourist Office by Beausoleil
This is a good place to start (and end) a walk in St. Cyprien because there are several fun cafés for a cup of coffee after the walk. Some of the streets are very steep so the coffee is a great idea . . . or a glass of wine.

Le Petit Paris Restaurant in Daglan by Beausoleil
We've never been in Daglan during meal hours so haven't eaten there although friends have and love it. It's quite popular so I suspect a reservation might be useful, especially in July and August. The town itself is lovely for a walk while in the area.

Auberge des Platanes in La-Roque-Gageac by Beausoleil
A favorite lunch stop when we're driving around the Dordogne. It is right on the river and they make their own ice cream. There is also free restaurant parking and in La Roque, that is a bargain.

Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, a Plus Beau Village by Beausoleil
Saint-Cirq-Lapopie is one of the French Plus Beaux Villages and just off the Célé Valley route on the Camino de Santiago de Compostela (the Way). It sits on a cliff 300 feet above the river Lot and commands stunning views of the Lot Valley. There are shops, restaurants, cobbled streets, at least one museum and thirteen listed historic buildings . . . and steep hills to climb. The Château is in ruins but there are stairs and guard rails and the very best view is from the top. The tourist office is very helpful.

Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, a Plus Beau Village of France by Beausoleil
We fell in love with St. Cirq many years ago and found a nice Gite de France about 5 km from it so decided to spend a week. The entire area is spectacular, mountains, caves, pretty villages, picturesque scenery . . . and good food.

Place Marcou later in the day by Beausoleil
This looks more normal. There are crowds of people filling the restaurants around the square. You see a lot of people with their dogs at the restaurants but once we saw a lady eating here with her cat . . . a very well-behaved cat.
