Capendu - Village houses by Beausoleil
Remains of the Castle and the Bell tower that is still in use today. It has been determined that the village dates back to Gallo-Roman times and by 1815 there were 101 houses which had grown to 198 by 1660. At one point following poor harvests and excessive taxation, this fell to 90 houses but then the population started growing again until 1820. When wine became a main trade, the population grew until it reached 1664 inhabitants in 1921. It is currently a thriving modern village surrounded by vineyards.

The village of Near Sawrey by Beausoleil
I kept reading descriptions and references to Near Sawrey. I took a while before I realized it wasn't near a village called Sawrey but rather the village was named Near Sawrey. A tiny but confusing village . . . home of Beatrix Potter who wrote "Peter Rabbit."

Local Accommodation and the Local Bakery in Lacock Village by Beausoleil
The Sign of the Angel, a restaurant with rooms and the Lacock Bakery are both historic buildings. We also discovered the bakery has quite a few other things for sale including ice cream cones. This was not an ice cream day, but good for future reference.
