Nunnington Hall - Garden Sculpture by Beausoleil
Nunnington Hall is a beautiful Elizabethan manor house situated on the edge of the North York Moors. The river Rye runs past the house, flowing away from the village of Nunnington. A stone bridge over the river separates the grounds of the house from the village. The Hall stands within 8 acres of organically managed grounds. The Walled Garden contains lawns, orchards, formal rose beds, mixed borders, a Tea Garden, and an Iris Garden. The orchards are managed as wildflower meadows growing below the fruit trees of which most are traditional Ryedale varieties. Another feature of the gardens are the resident peacocks. Inside the 17th-century manor house you can visit the magnificent oak-paneled hall, family rooms, the nursery, the haunted room and the attics, with the famous Carlisle collection of miniature rooms fully furnished to reflect different periods. We were also fortunate enough to see an exhibit of watercolors by David Birtweistle.

Manchester International Airport by Beausoleil
Since we were traveling in northern England, we decided to avoid the crowds at London Heathrow and fly through Manchester. It was a great idea . . . no London traffic.

Flying over Widnes and Warrington from Manchester to San Francisco by Beausoleil
As you fly out of Manchester International Airport to San Francisco, you fly over Warrington and Widnes, UK and can see Fiddler's Ferry Power Station, the Mersey Gateway Bridge and the Silver Jubilee Bridge over the right wing. It is very impressive despite dirty windows.

Leaving England on Virgin Atlantic Air by Beausoleil
Flying in and out of Manchester International Airport, we used Virgin Atlantic Airways Limited. It got us there and back at a reasonable cost, but wasn't our favorite airline.

Returning our rented Mercedes with the leaky tire by Beausoleil
Our last day in England and we turned in our rented car at the Manchester Airport. The left front tire had needed refilling nearly every other day throughout the month so we were happy to say good-bye to the car. We've had better luck with Peugeots over the years.
