Musée Le Faouët by Beausoleil
Musée du Faouët in Le Faouët was formerly an Ursuline Convent so it is a beautiful building for the wonderful collection of Breton artists it holds. While we were there, there was a special exhibit of a private collection featuring the Pont-Aven School. Their current exhibition is of Breton portraits. The town is worth a visit but the museum is a treasure.

Meneham Folk Village (Ecomusée) by Beausoleil
We went to visit the ecomusée at Meneham on a gorgeous day in autumn. The most fun building was a 17th-century coastguard’s cottage with stone roof tucked between two huge rocks. It was built to spy on the sea in the period when France and England were at war. The village behind is of a later date, built in part to house customs men trying to stop smuggling. Later, farmers moved in, but in the last century it all fell to ruin until it was turned into a folk museum. They have tourist information, local crafts, foods and beverages and a very nice restaurant that includes outdoor dining. There are walks along the shore and beautiful beaches.

There are now lots of vendors and street artists around the Louvre. This fellow was creating giant soap bubbles and the kids were chasing them. It was fun to watch.

Crowds at Les Nabis at the Luxembourg Museum by Beausoleil
We were at the Luxembourg Museum for a special exhibit titled "Les Nabis." If you are wondering who the Nabis are, so was I and this is what I discovered. Les Nabis were a group of young French artists active in Paris from 1888 until 1900, who played a large part in the transition from impressionism and academic art to abstract art, symbolism and the other early movements of modernism. The Nabis (from the Hebrew and Arabic term for "prophets,") were a Symbolist group founded by Paul Sérusier. They all ascribed to certain formal tenets - e.g., the idea that a painting was a harmonious grouping of lines and colors. They expanded their aesthetic into the area of applied arts as well, including architectural painting, decorative screens, murals, posters, book illustrations, and designs for the theater. It isn't my cup of tea, but it was an interesting exhibit and we were glad to have seen it.
