La Puce a l’Oreille Restaurant at Auberge de la Leverette - old victrola (it worked) by Beausoleil
La Puce a l’Oreille means something like a flea in the ear and the restaurant was filled with all kinds of old victrolas and calliopes. The owner played several of them for us. It was great fun and the food was also excellent.

Abbaye de Bon Repos - Wall on the left holds instruments made by José Piez by Beausoleil
A ruined abbey on the Blavet River section of the Nantes-Brest Canal. The adjoining building holds Les Minéraux de l'Abbaye with information about various minerals and a rock shop that includes some lovely jewelry. The abbey is a ruin but well cared for and they have an artist in residence each year so there is always interesting art. There is a son et lumière in the summer. On this trip (2021) José Piez was the artist in residence and you were encouraged to play all his instruments. It was originally a Cistercian Abbey built in the 1100s. Their web site has a fascinating history.

Illumination - The Marmottan-Monet Museum - Paris by Beausoleil
There was a special exhibit at the Marmottan-Monet while we were on our 55th anniversary trip to Paris. The museum has the largest collection of the works of Claude Monet including his 1872 "Impression, Sunrise" that gave the name to Impressionism. They also have a stunning collection of Berthe Morisot and another of illuminated medieval manuscripts. Add the beautiful Ranelagh Park next to the museum, and it is a marvelous day in Paris.

Église Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis - Organ by Beausoleil
Église Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis is a church on rue Saint-Antoine in the Marais. The present building was constructed from 1627 to 1641 by the Jesuit architects Étienne Martellange and François Derand, on the orders of Louis XIII of France. The Saint Paul Metro station is named after the church. Two clam-shell holy water holders were a gift from Victor Hugo when his daughter was married there. Delacroix painted "Christ in agony on the Mount of Olives" for the church which can be seen to the left of the altar. The church's grand tribune organ was classified as a historic monument in 1867 and was restored in 1972.

Bath Abbey Organ and Quire Angels by Beausoleil
The Abbey Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul is more commonly referred to as Bath Abbey. It started life in the seventh century and was a Benedictine Monastery. It is today an Anglican church. It is noted for its fan vaulting and at one place inside there is a mirror so you can easily see the vaulting high above.

Château de Cheverny Library by Beausoleil
The Château de Cheverny has been continuously occupied for 600 years. There have been renovations, but it has always been a home to the family so the rooms are all furnished, many opulently. There are magnificent works of art including paintings, tapestries and statues so it's one of the more exciting châteaux to visit in the Loire. The gardens are very nice but do not rival Chaumont or Villandry. There are activities for children and a special (extra fee) museum for fans of Tin Tin. You can also observe the feeding of the hounds nearly every day except the odd times during hunting season when they are working. Check the web site for feeding times and dates. If you really want to see a superb performance at feeding time, drive to the Abbaye du Val des Choues where their hounds are exceptionally well trained.
