Santa Ynez Valley by neilthelr
We took a scenic drive through the mountains to Malibu and stopped at a vista point for this. The turnout (lay-by) we were in was packed with bikers whilst more passed by watched carefully by the police cars parked up and down the hill. Lake Cachuma is down in the valley below

This is the main door that leads in to the Assembly Room (lounge), which is enormous. William Randolph Hurst's private bedroom is on the top level of this structure. All the buildings are as ornate as this one, Casa Grande

Pebble Beach Links: the 18th by neilthelr
Taken from the clubhouse looking back on to the 18th hole of the PGA course. The fairway is on the left with the tee off in the distance. The green is just behind the bunkers on the right. Apparently, Jack Nicklaus would like to play his last round here

Ahhh: Seals off Pebble Beach by neilthelr
It's the start of pupping season so the area is closed off but you can see down in to the marine reserve on the edge of Pebble Beach where many seals frollic.

17 Mile drive - a taster by neilthelr
Taken at one of the early stops on the drive. There are several golf courses around the area and there's a short par 3 on the left of this with the flag in the distance and the tee just behind us on the left. The whole shoreline around there looks like this

Lombard Street...it's twisty by neilthelr
It's not actually the steepest street in San Fran but it's possibly the busiest. There was a queue of cars going down it all the time we were there

The location is just fantastic - you can see out over the bay from the high seats. It was a pre-season warm-up of SF Giants vs Oakland A's. 'We' (San Fran) won!

Alcatraz is all that it appears to be. You can imagine being a prisoner there thanks to the audio tour but it must have been soul destroying to hear and see San Fran just over a mile away and not be able to have it

San Fran Cable Car by neilthelr
they're $5 each journey, which is expensive, but we turned up with a $20 note and the first time was free as they didn't have change and the second time they didn't ask for a fare so it worked out as good value! They're good fun, but only if it's dry
