Machupicchu terraces and the Sun Gate by cathyandtom 1 Star this if you like it!

These terraces were used for food growing and all the soil was carried from the river bed. If you look at the top of the photo, you will see a notch In the mountain close to the middle. This is the Sun Gate and the original entry into the area. The Incan trail is just visible and runs from Cusco to Machupicchu. During the summer and winter solstice, the sun from this notch shines into and out of windows in the sun temple inside Machupicchu.
