Though most famous for leading the first expedition to reach the South Pole, Amundsen also led the first expedition to navigate the Northwest Passage and was part of the first overflight of the North Pole (in the airship Norge). He died on a rescue mission that departed from Tromso by flying-boat - most of the plane's wreckage, and none of the bodies, have ever been found. Polar Museum (Polarmuseet), Tromso, Norway
